Analytics Assistant

The assistant answers questions about your analytics from whichever Analytics page you're on. Ask "all logins that came from social in the last 30 days" and it finds the answer, tells you the key numbers, and changes the page so the page itself shows the result. When you want to keep something, ask it to make a report and it opens the report builder already filled in.

Open the assistant

Click Assistant in the header of any Analytics page: Pulse, any Events view, Reports, a saved report, the report builder, or a reader's page. The panel opens on the right and the rest of the app makes room for it.

The panel stays open, and keeps the conversation, as you move between Analytics pages in the same browser tab. An answer still being written keeps going while you change pages. New conversation starts over; closing the tab ends it.

If you move to a different Analytics page and come back to the conversation, the panel offers Start a new conversation, and the assistant suggests the same when your next question doesn't follow on from the earlier ones. Changing filters on the same page doesn't count as moving.

What it can do

You askThe assistant
A question about the page you're on ("what stands out here?", "only show members")Reads the page's current filters, answers, and adjusts them
A question with several conditions ("logins from social in the last 30 days")Sets the event type, filters, and range on the Events page so the page lists the matching events
A loose term like "social", "search", or "newsletter"Looks up the real sources your site records and tells you which ones it used
An ambiguous question ("top content")Picks a sensible measure, says which, and offers the alternatives
"What data do we have about …?"Lists the event types, measures, and dimensions your site actually records
Something your data can't answer (email open rate)Says plainly what isn't tracked and offers the closest question it can answer
"Make this a report"Opens the report builder filled in with a name, description, and the query

Every change it makes to the page is listed in the panel with an Undo that returns you to the page you were on before. If you change a filter yourself, the assistant works from your version on the next question.

Reports

The assistant never saves a report. Asking it to make a report opens the report builder with the fields filled in; the ones the assistant set are outlined until you edit them. Check the preview, then click Save report.

On a saved report, asking for a change ("show this weekly") opens that report's edit builder with the change applied. Nothing changes until you save.

Date ranges stay relative: a report drafted over "last 30 days" always shows the latest 30 days. The assistant works with the same ranges as reports (7 days, 30 days, 90 days, 12 months). For anything else, such as "last month", it uses the nearest one and says which.

Members with the Viewer role can ask questions and change what they see, but the assistant can't draft or change reports for them.

Privacy

The assistant uses the same data and limits as the Analytics pages. It never receives anything that identifies an individual reader: event lists reach it without reader IDs, email addresses, IP addresses, or user agents, and on a reader's page it only knows it's on a reader page.

Limits and availability

Each person can send 20 questions a minute and 200 an hour. Past that, the assistant asks you to wait.

The assistant is on for every organization by default. It can be turned off for an organization with the Analytics AI assistant feature flag.

If analytics data is temporarily unavailable, the assistant says it couldn't run the question and leaves the page as it was.
